The Blood Donation Centre recorded 16,807 pints of blood collected from 13,785 blood donors, including 3,289 newly registered donors in 2025. According to the Minister of Health, said achievement reflected the people's ongoing commitment in supporting efforts to ensure the nation's blood supply remains sufficient at all times. In a message in conjunction with the World Blood Donor Day 2026, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health also stated that the country's blood donation rate also remains within the target recommended by the World Health Organization, WHO, which is between 1 to 3 per cent of the total population to meet the country's needs in responding to emergency situations. In 2025, Brunei Darussalam achieved a rate of 2.3 per cent, and this figure remained consistent with the country's achievement since 2014.
To ensure the nation's blood transfusion system continues to be strengthened, the Ministry of Health will continue to enhance the implementation of initiatives pertaining to blood safety, quality assurance and integrated clinical transfusion management. Continuous improvement on the hemovigilance system, monitoring of blood transfusion practices, and strengthening of the blood screening process will continue to be given attention to ensure the blood and blood products supplied to patients are safe, of high quality and compliant with international standards.
The Ministry of Health will also continue to expand public education and awareness efforts on the importance of voluntary and regular blood donation. The youth's involvement is vital to ensure the continuity of a sustainable group of blood donors to meet the needs of patients in the future. Hence, all levels society are urged to together play a role in enculturing blood donation practices as a social responsibility and a noble act of charity. Meanwhile, government agencies, education institutions, uniformed groups, the private sector and non-governmental organisations are also encouraged to organise blood donation campaigns to assist in maintaining a healthy level of blood supply in the country.
This year's theme 'One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives', elevate humanitarian values as the core of every blood donation. Donating blood is not just a medical procedure, it is a humanitarian activity that symbolises solidarity, compassion and responsibility towards the society's well-being. Every drop of blood gives new hope and becomes a lifeline for those who truly need it.
